Whether you have been using IPTV for years or just signed up for the first time, these ten tips will immediately improve your experience. From EPG setup to recording and bandwidth saving tricks, these are the things experienced IPTV users do differently.

1. Always Use Xtream Codes Over M3U When You Can

Both M3U and Xtream Codes give you the same channels but Xtream Codes loads faster, organises content better and enables features like catch-up TV and VOD categories that M3U does not always support. If your app supports Xtream Codes — and most modern ones do — use it instead of M3U.

2. Set Up EPG From Day One

The EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) is the feature that turns IPTV from a channel list into a proper TV experience. It shows you what is currently on and what is coming up, just like a traditional TV guide.

In TiviMate, EPG loads automatically when you connect via Xtream Codes. In other apps you may need to add an EPG source manually. Contact IPTV Nords support for your dedicated XMLTV EPG URL if you need one.

3. Build a Favourites List

With 19,000 channels available, browsing the full list every time is impractical. Spend 10 minutes adding your most-watched channels to Favourites — in TiviMate just long-press any channel. Once set up, your Favourites panel becomes your primary way to navigate.

4. Use Catch-Up TV for Missed Content

Most live channels on IPTV Nords support catch-up TV — this means you can watch content that aired up to 7 days ago, just like BBC iPlayer or ITVX but for every channel simultaneously. In your IPTV app look for the clock icon or "Catch-up" option next to each channel.

Catch-up availability depends on the specific channel. Most major sports, news and entertainment channels support it. Smaller regional channels may not.

5. Refresh Your Playlist Regularly

New channels are added to IPTV Nords every month. If you do not refresh your playlist these new channels will not appear. In TiviMate go to Settings → Playlists → Update. Set it to auto-update weekly so you never miss new additions.

6. Use the Hardware Decoder for Better Performance

In your IPTV app's player settings make sure the decoder is set to Hardware rather than Software. The hardware decoder uses your device's dedicated video chip which is significantly faster and uses less battery on mobile devices. Software decoding can cause dropped frames and heat issues on older devices.

7. Set Up Recording for Live Sports

TiviMate Premium allows you to record any live channel directly to your device's storage. This is incredibly useful for sports — set a recording before a match and you can pause, rewind and slow-motion replay any moment. Go to Settings → Recording in TiviMate to configure your storage location and recording quality.

8. Increase Buffer for Live Sports

Live sports streams benefit from a larger buffer than regular TV viewing. A 10–15 second buffer means the app downloads that amount of stream data in advance, so minor network hiccups do not cause visible interruptions. Set this in your app's player settings.

9. Use a Wired Connection During Big Matches

WiFi is convenient but unreliable during peak times. When a major Champions League or Premier League match is being watched by millions of people simultaneously, your neighbourhood WiFi network experiences congestion. A €15 ethernet adapter for your Firestick or Smart TV completely eliminates this problem.

10. Keep a Backup Channel in Favourites

For important live events add two or three alternative feed channels alongside the primary one in your favourites. If your main Champions League channel has a brief interruption you can switch to the backup instantly rather than searching through thousands of channels in the middle of a match.
